My Story
Are you frustrated with your MLM venture, going from business to business, product to product, dedicating years trying to figure out how to make money and your MLM business work?
This is my journey and how I turned 30 years of struggle with the common MLM to gold and am creating a lifetime of wealth.
As high school sweethearts, married out of college, my husband Dan and I earned degrees in the medical and physical education fields. We began to follow our individual dreams down our respective career paths. I was a Physical Education teacher and coach. Dan was in medical school to complete his studies to become a Family Physician. In addition, we really wanted a business of our own that we could participate in together. We wanted this business to be a free enterprise for us, an additional revenue stream to get our children through college, an opportunity to continue to learn and something we could partner in to grow together. We knew that starting a traditional brick and mortar business would be very involved, time consuming and costly. We needed something we could do from home and have access to anywhere, so we decided to go into the business of network marketing.
The journey begins…
Everything started out great. We really enjoyed meeting positive people and supported and believed in the product we sold. It was a nice diversion from our careers. Like most, being new in this business and not having any experience we struggled to do well. We attended all of the required meetings, hosted meetings in our home, reached out to every friend and family member we had. I worked hard at it putting a lot of effort into it. Dan helped where he could given his busy schedule. We were doing everything possible that we knew to do yet getting minimal in return. Frustration levels quickly heightened. I was losing momentum and motivation. Our time easily started to get consumed with our individual careers and children; leaving us dabbling at best in our MLM business.
Once a Network Marketer, always a Network Marketer!
Once signed up, we continuously got offers for “free” product and trials with endless options for the next “big thing” to earn a fortune. New marketing ventures kept coming our way, so we continued to take on more, looking for that golden product that would make us successful. This continued on for years. For 30 years we tried almost every MLM business out there, selling several different types of products only to continue to struggle, barely covering the cost of entry into each business. We struggled most with recruiting and getting those we sponsored to produce results. Many did not have the self discipline and the work ethic required to get a business like this off the ground so would drop out shortly after they signed up. We were challenged to close deals in the first place as we always felt as though we were pressuring people. That coupled with the old traditional recruiting methods really made us feel like desperate car salesmen.
Although the products we represented were good, they were all marketed in the traditional MLM business structure. Commissions were very small, never amounting to much and the money stopped there. Given all this effort and what we had been experiencing over the years, it was hard to see how this business model was really going to make us any significant amount of money. After chasing all of the friends and family members we knew, who either bought from us or told us no, being limited by location and having exhausted our local reach, we didn’t have anyone else to go to and didn’t know where to turn next. We were tired and really starting to lose hope; yet desperate to make something work.
Anyone for jewelry? How about a local retail business??
I decided to get into the jewelry business. Low cost, high mark up, this was bound to be it right? Well… maybe not. Direct sales through hosting shows and setting up in local malls was exhausting, time consuming and in the end not worth the effort.
How about a local retail business? Mine started out as a cell phone business and grew into a JCPenney Catalog store, Fed-X Shipping location and finally Bill Payment opportunity. Yep, you guessed it. The cell phone business alone was not generating enough income to sustain itself so I had to add other opportunities to attract customers and grow. The overhead in addition to the limitations of employees, location, retails hours, etc. confirmed for me that this type of business was not going to generate the success I was looking for either. Now I’m stuck trying to figure out how to sell this business that is costing me time, money and energy. Needless to say, these ventures were not the golden ticket either.
REAL Network Marketing anyone??
I really didn’t understand why this MLM business wasn’t working when I was doing everything I was told to achieve success. However; with all of the years I had put into this, I was not about to quit now. What I did know was that I was done spending time and money on things that would not yield a return. I knew I had to somehow branch out and reach more people and that I really needed help.
